Waltacre

 This project involved demolishing the original semi-detached property and rebuilding it on the same footprint, adding a large two storey extension to turn this two-bedroom house into a four-bedroom family home. The work was completed to Passivhaus standard. This ultra-low energy building standard which requires projects to meet stringent insulation and air-tightness criteria to achieve high performance results. Natural materials were used wherever possible, including clay block walls finished with lime plaster and render, recycled glass foam insulation under the ground floor and recycled newspaper and woodfibre board in the roof. An MVHR system was also installed.
